Dendrobium
linguiforme
Also
known as dockrilla linguiforme, this miniature
species has succulent leaves and grows like a weed especially
if mounted where it grows into a dense mat. It flowers
in the fall and winter, producing a froth of dainty
white flowers with a faint fragrance. Another seldom-seen
species in flask. We are seeing vigorous growth in flask
which should translate to mature plants relatively soon
out of flask.

Encyclia
prismatocarpa
Also
known as prosthechia prismatocarpa , this elegant

pseudobulbs. Medium to large sized plants produce tall
spikes of evenly spaced flowers. The blossoms are creamy
white with chocolate bars and a lavendar, triangular-shaped
lip. |

Holcoglossum
amesianum
This species has quite a story
to tell. Plants in bloom do not need a pollinator to
produce seed. This ability has captured the attention
of scientists who study the sex lives of orchids. According
to this article,
"The orchid, Holcoglossum amesianum, performs a
tricky, 360-degree, gravity-defying dance to pollinate
itself."
In
the lab, this member of the vanda alliance
proved to be exceptionally virile. We saw germination
within 2 weeks and were able to begin replates within
a month of sowing. We expect it to continue this growth
rate outside the flask as well. Add to that its rarety
in general cultivation and you get a real winner.

Paphiopedilum
Bo Ying Chow (Pinocchio 'Plum Mousse' x bellatulum)
This
new and beautiful hybrid has everything you could
ask for -- substance, flower size, compact growth
habit, multiple blooms and incredible beauty. Expect
creamy white flowers with burgundy spots and possibly
some stripes. This particular remake used our own
wide-wing span, huge dorsal, richly colored clone
of Pinocchio. These were fast to germinate and show
vigorous growth in the flask. They should continue
to grow quickly and easily for you outside the flask.

Pahiopedilum
fairrieanum ('Hidden Pippen' x album) x sib
Of
all paph species, this is my favorite with its purple
stripes against a white background and undulate petals
and dorsal. This species imparts these traits to its
offspring, including the oh-so-lovely hybrid, Paph.
Angela, another of my favorites.
The
two parents of this grex are quality parents from
the Orchid Zone. A previous cross using 'Hidden Pippen'
(fairrieanum album 'Green Acres' x 'Hidden Pippin')
produced some albums. According to the laws of heredity,
in order for that to happen, 'Hidden Pippen' would
have to have a recessive album gene. That is good
news for our cross, meaning that it too, will produce
album progeny, approximately 25%. Accordingly, each
flask can contain approximately 25% coloratum (with
2 dominant color genes), 50% coloratum (with one dominant
coloratum gene and one recessive album gene), and
25% album plants (with 2 recessive album genes).
These
freshly replated flasks are showing healthy growth
and should be ready for release this fall. Once out
of the flask, we expect them to continue to show robust
growth. They will mature small and compact so you
can expect blooms relatively soon.

Paphiopedilum
lowii x Pinocchio
'Always Blooming'
Mating
a multifloral with a sequential bloomer could yield
an almost never-ending supply of flowers in shades
of pinks, greens and burnished golds. The lowii
parent is in a 6" pot and at last blooming had
3 spikes of 4 and 5 blooms each. The Pinocchio parent
was used as a pollen parent in April of 2007 and was
still in bloom on the same spike in October 2008.
What I love about Pinocchio is its ability to bloom
almost nonstop while at the same time grow and mature
a new growth so that when the current spike is finished,
it will have a new spike developing to continue the
show.
These
husky plants are growing well in flask and should
continue this vigorous growth outside the flask. Supply
is limited.

Paphiopedilum
Pinocchio x fairrieanum
If
you love fairrieanums but hate figuring out
how to grow them, then you are going to love this
cross. It is very similar to Paph. Elfin
Charm. The flowers look a lot like Paph. fairrieanum,
but way easier to grow and bloom. And add to this
the possibility of multiple flowers per inflorescence.
In
the flask, the plants are showing excellent growth.
We expect to be able to ship finished flasks by early
fall.

Paphiopedilum
Venus Ward x delenatii
The Venus Ward parent is one
half venustum and retains the venustum
appearance. That combined with the round delenatii
should result in a flower with rounded petals and
possibly green striped dorsal. Quantities are limited.
The few flasks that are available look awesome.

Prosthechia
garciana x self
Maturing at a height of only
8-10 inches, this species is one of those great things
that come in small packages. This is an easy grower
that produces pendant spikes of delicate, pinkish
lavendar flowers. In the lab we saw germination in
3 weeks and vigorous growth once replated. This one
is truly a gem.

mackayi
Heralded by many as the headiest of all orchid fragrances,
these flowers will easily fill a room with their aroma.
These plants are growing vigorously in flask. Out
of the flask, they can grow like weeds! We once had
a specimen in a 12" pot that produced 7 spikes!
That's enough to smell up the whole back yard!
In
the flask, they are really growing beautifully and
should be ready for release NOW!
